The TRAILS Final Conference will share the key findings of the TRAILS project and present an inspiring programme, including workshops focused on future strategies for coastal defense in the Wadden Sea region. Additionally, a poster session will highlight ongoing and new projects in the area.

The TRAILS project focuses on better understanding and applying sand replenishment in tidal areas such as the Wadden Sea. The project investigates where the sand goes and what impact this has on the environment and nature. This is done through five work packages with the following key activities:

  • Collaborate with stakeholders, such as municipalities, to develop future-proof coastal protection strategies.
  • Test new techniques to better map the movement of sand.
  • Investigate how sand replenishment affects the ecosystem.
  • Improve computer models to better predict sand flows and coastal changes.
  • Compile all acquired knowledge for an integrated approach.
