Wadden Sea World Heritage Summer School

-

Borkum (D)

The transdisciplinary Wadden Sea World Heritage Summer School taking place from 20 to 30 August offers participants insights into current and important topics and challenges in the field of ecology, nature conservation, tourism and management, and sustainable development in the context of the Wadden Sea World Heritage Site from a local as well as transnational perspective. Participants will have introductory lectures given by recognised experts from different faculties and practitioners in relation on different fields of interest (e.g., environmental sciences, social sciences, economics, law etc.). They will be introduced to current challenges with the aim of working together towards potential solutions by discussing and elaborating concepts in small groups. The necessary underlying information will be conveyed in the format of classic lectures but also by on-site and field visits.

The Summer School is executed in partnership with various academic and practice-oriented organizations and strives to acquaint the participants with trilateral conservation, management and governance aspects of the unique Wadden Sea ecosystem.

The Wadden Sea World Heritage Summer School is a joint initiative of AWI, the FH Westküste, the Common Wadden Sea Secretariat, the National Park Authority “Niedersächsisches Wattenmeer”, the Vadehavet National Park and the Waddenacademie and is supported by the Trilateral Wadden Sea Cooperation.
