New Interreg coastal management project approved with Wadden Sea at core
On 21 and 22 September, the Monitoring Committee of the Interreg North Sea Programme 2021-2027 approved 14 new projects in Call 1. Amongst these is MANABAS COAST (MAinstreaming NAture BAsed Solutions through COASTal systems). MANABAS was granted under priority 3: Climate resilience, biodiversity and pollution and aims to integrate flood and coastal erosion risk management with biodiversity goals, to deliver a sustainable future. The Common Wadden Sea Secretariat (CWSS) is partner in this new project and will provide exchange between MANABAS and trilateral bodies and activities, in particular with the Trilateral Wadden Sea Cooperation's (TWSC) Expert Group Climate Change Adaptation (EG-C).
Adaptation to the possible impacts of climate change is a major priority for the TWSC. The TWSC is working towards a climate resilient North Sea Region by coordinated trilateral policies for enhancing the resilience of the Wadden Sea ecosystem to impacts of climate change, also in view of the Outstanding Universal Value (OUV) of the World Heritage property.
