Conservation of the Wadden Sea

The inscription of the Wadden Sea on the World Heritage List recognises the outstanding global importance of the area’s biodiversity and natural processes and the need for its long-term protection and management. In the framework of the Trilateral Wadden Sea Cooperation (TWSC), Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands have created a common ground of harmonised protection as well as management and policy, ensuring the integrity of the Wadden Sea World Heritage now and in the future. The respective goals of the TWSC are manifested in the Wadden Sea Plan, which is a key tool for policy and management. The SIMP Integrated Management Plan for One Wadden Sea World Heritage (SIMP) complements the Wadden Sea Plan and supports the continuous improvement of coordinated management for the conservation of the Outstanding Universal Value of the Site.
